What is

A “Bioeconomy Strategy” was developed by the Japanese Cabinet Office to realize a bioeconomy society in the Integrated Innovation Strategy Promotion Committee.

Eight organizations across Japan have been certified by the Cabinet Office and are working together with the public and private sectors.

These certified bio-communities established an organizing committee in October 2023. “ Bioeconomy Hub Japan ” was established to continuously hold international symposiums for the purpose of strengthening cooperation between Japan and other countries in order to expand the bioeconomy market by disseminating information globally from Japan.

＊Bioeconomy is a concept that expands a sustainable, recyclable, and regenerative economic society by utilizing biotechnology and renewable biological resources.

Background of the Event

It is important to correctly capture global social issues and find new ways forward for the future of industry and the role of biotechnology to realize a bioeconomy society.

Held in April this year, Bioeconomy Hub Japan 2024 discussed the theme of planetary health and “How bio-based innovation can achieve planetary health” from three perspectives: environment, sustainable food systems, and global health.

The Bioeconomy Hub Japan 2025 invites speakers from overseas as well as from Japan to further deepen the discussion on this theme and engage in global debate.

＊Planetary health is a concept that is based on the idea of deeply learning about the interdependence between our health and our planet's health and changing our behavior accordingly.

Purpose of The event

Our Goal: Increase international co-operation for the advancement of Japan‘s bio-economy society

Osaka/Kansai Expo 2025 is a great opportunity for Japan to disseminate information globally. Taking advantage of this opportunity, we hold an international symposium, and by having many people from Japan and overseas participate, we aim to promote global discussion, show the direction of new industry creation that makes use of Japan's strengths, and lead to social change.
